一日一记:The Greeks created the Olympics millenia ago to quiet rivalries between city states, come together to compete honorably in athletics, and thereby see, acknowledge, and honor the common humanity and heroism in all peoples.
Every society on earth has skeletons in its closets and heroes in its vanguard. Dwelling on each others' skeletons produces misunderstanding, hatred, and war. Dwelling on each others' humanity and heroism produces friendship, cooperation, and a better common future.
The Olympics are obviously about honoring the best in humanity. In hosting them, the Chinese are showing us today in which direction they would like to move forward. Will we take a step with them?
Namaste.
